Race 1
Two pole positions in qualifying by Moore gave him a clear run down to the first corner, holding off an initial challenge by James Jefferson in race one. Kieran Vernon sat alongside Moore waiting for the lights to turn green, but electronic problems for the karting graduate forced him to pit and his ECU be re-seated. Vernon rejoined at the back of the field, but fought back to 14th place to take 6 championship points.
Meanwhile, a clean run at the front by Moore from Jefferson and Clayton gave them respective podiums in the late on Saturday race.
An opening lap tap by Dominic Pettit sent Tollbar driver George Richardson spinning to the back of the field. Pettit went on to challenge Tom Sharp for fourth, but a brave move on the inside at Tower, sent Pettit across into a corn field.
Pettit managed to rejoin after getting out of his car to push his Ginetta free himself and added four more points to his tally.
A strong, clean run by Fergus Walkinshaw took him from 10th to 5th, with Simon Austin in his best finish so far less than one second behind him in 6th.
Newcomer Deano Zamparelli just made it into the top ten in his first car race, progressing up from karts. He battled from 15th on the grid with fellow karters Alice Powell and Cavan Corcoran - who were both in just their second Ginetta Junior race weekend.
Mia Morgan was absent from the day’s race due to her car being badly damaged earlier in the day. Her first encounter with a barrier presented her mechanics with a lengthy repair job to her car.
Race 2
Race two began with a first corner incident for Dominic Pettit, Kieran Vernon and Tom Sharp all going off at Clervaux. Pettit and Sharp were unable to rejoin the circuit, but Vernon managed to find enough momentum to contunue.
Back down the order - as in race one, Vernon had his work cut out again to fight through the challenging young racers ahead. However, by mid-way through the race, he was back up to 11th and closing in on Alice Powell. By the end of the race, he had clawed his way back to an impressive 7th place, just 0.163 seconds behind Thomas Carnaby.
Carnaby’s 6th place was the Hepworth International driver’s best finish yet, and compensated for the disappointment from race one when his clutch cable broke in the second lap while running in 6th.
At the front of the pack, Nigel Moore and James Jefferson were keeping the Dunlop Great and British crowd entertained with their dice for glory. The pair challenged each other constantly throughout the fifteen minute race - coming across the line side-by-side with Chris Clayton tucked up behind them in third on more than one occasion.
Coming to start their last lap at the Complex, the trio were coming to lap Mia Morgan who was back out in her repaired car. Unfortunately for Moore, contact between himself and Jefferson at the hairpin resulted in a broken upright for Moore.
Jefferson continued to take the chequered flag and a provisional win and Moore 15th.
Post-race, driving standards Clerks penalised Jefferson for the contact with Moore, handing him a 6 second time penalty and two points on his racing licence. The time penalty then dropped him from 1st to 4th, handing the winners honours to Chris Clayton.
George Richardson and Paul Marsh inherit second and third respectively - this being Richardson’s first Championship podium.
Deano Zamparelli beat his race one finish by two places to come in 8th and battling with Alice Powell, but fellow newcomer Mikey Crabtree retired early with mechanical problems. Walkinshaw repeated his earlier form, coming through the field from 11th to 5th.
The Dunlop Great and British festival moves on to Pembrey in Wales on 22nd / 23rd September to start the second half of the PlayStation Ginetta Junior Championship.
