Race 1

Nigel Moore and Kieran Vernon sandwiched James Jefferson into Paddock Hill bed for the first time, but with Vernon on the outside line, Sharp came through ahead to demote Vernon from 2nd to 4th. Jefferson had the lead out of Graham Hill bend, but then lost out to Moore and then Vernon on the third lap.

A spin by Jordan Lennox-Lamb on Hailwood Hill (right) slowed the field down as he was recovered from the gravel under double-waved yellow flags, but a helping hand into the tyre wall at Clearways for Ashley Bird was enough to bring out the red flags and a race stoppage.

Meanwhile, Dominic Pettit’s bonnet came off on the Cooper Straight and en-route back to the grid in his bid to re-start the race, stopped to collect his bodywork. A detour into the pits for a quick repair was in vain – only to be refused on-track by marshals who deemed his repair unsafe.

George Richardson was also unable to make the race re-start, due to missing his drivers door. Following Pettit when bonnet came off, Richardson’s door was hit and damaged by the flying debris.

At the race re-start, a new race duration of 10 minutes was declared. Jefferson had a great start to take the lead. Moore was right on his tail and almost lost control coming out of Druids and lost out to Vernon but maintained control to keep it on the track. Jefferson, Vernon and Moore were nose-to tail with less than half a second between them over the line.

Alice Powell had a spin going into Paddock Hill which took her and Fergus Walkinshaw into the gravel but a recovery under double-waved yellow flags was sufficient enough not to stop the race again.

Leaving the door open at McLaren, Moore passed Vernon to take second place and secure his Championship title.

Vying for championship position, Tom Sharp and Chris Clayton were battling away in 4th and 5th, but Sharp dropped to 6th on lap 6th, going wide at Graham Hill bend.

A good qualifying position for Simon Austin in 8th had him running in 6th after the race re-start, but lost out to Tom Carnaby and Dino Zamparelli in the race. In just his fourth race weekend, Zamparelli had made up five places in the race and ran comfortably in 5th, holding off a pressurising Sharp in the closing stages.

“All I had to do was finish in the top six in this race, so the next two races are safe and I’m really happy” said Moore.

Chasing for Championship runner-up spot, Vernon said “Coming here after last time, I thought we could win all three races maybe but second in the championship is possible so as long as we come out of the day with second we shall be happy.”

Race 2

Chris Clayton’s Championship battle with Tom Sharp had a setback on the opening lap of race two when he got tipped into a spin at Surtees and dropped from 5th down to 12th. From the back of the grid, Pettit had already stormed through into 9th but it was Vernon who had the better start and led from the off.

Moving up to 5th up behind stablemate Sharp, Nick Ponting was looking to move ahead of Sharp on the second lap as the two cross the line side-by-side, but Sharp maintains his position. The following pair of Jordan Lennox-Lamb and Dino Zamparelli close in on the battle ahead of them, and the train of four cars emerges out of Druids in the order of Sharp, Lennox-Lamb, Zamparelli and Ponting.

The top three of Vernon, Moore and Jefferson had pulled out a gap behind the train of four cars behind them, which now have Dominic Pettit on their tail.

A stranded Tom Carnaby at Clearways and George Richardson at Clark Curve flew the red flags to halt proceedings after four laps of racing and another race re-start was imminent with a new duration of five minutes.

Vernon led once again at the restart, but Jefferson lost out at Graham Hill when he drifted wide onto the grass down into 7th, but a great restart by Ponting had him now in 2nd place ahead of Moore, Pettit, Zamparelli and Lennox-Lamb.

Moore went on to claim second at Clearways and ahead of Ponting a lap later. Lennox-Lamb took his season’s best finish of 5th at Paddock Hill on the penultimate lap on the inside of Zamparelli.

Fergus Walkinshaw had to start the race from the pit lane. Accident damage from race one left the already tight schedule even tighter and missed the window of opportunity to line up on the grid. Unfortunately, Ashley Bird’s damage from the earlier race was such he was unable to participate in the race, but anticipated being ready for race three.

Race 3

Jefferson launched off the line from 2nd to take the lead once again once the lights turned green with Vernon and Moore in close pursuit. Opening lap contact between Lennox-Lamb and Clayton put them both down the order.

Three abreast up to Druid for the second time, Vernon and Moore pass Jefferson who tries to come back at Surtees but has to settle in third place with Tom Sharp following.

Starting from the back of the pack once again, Pettit was up to 9th and pressurising the trio of cars which included Paul Marsh, Carnaby and Zamparelli which he passes at Paddock on lap 4.

Unfortunately for Pettit, he would have to repeat the move if he was to finish ahead of them, because the red flags flew once again and on the count-back (where grids for the re-start are determined by the previous complete lap) he was behind them. Jake Ratenbury was the latest driver to take a trip into the gravel at Clearways.

Similarly to race two, a five minute race was declared to run by the officials. Moore got the better start and pulled away as Vernon and Jefferson fought over second and third behind him (right). The pair were side by side down Cooper Straight but Vernon just had the advantage to stay ahead of his rival.

Despite Ashley Bird and his friends and family working to repair his car, contact between himself and Ashley Craig at Druids dropped him to the back of the grid.

Pettit’s strong run continued, re-passing the three cars ahead plus Ponting to grab 5th. Zamparelli also got ahead of Ponting’s #7 car to take another top six finish.

Sealing the season with a win, Moore said “I just got ahead at the restart and managed to hold it and slowly crept away.”

“The start was the main problem for me” said Kieran. I got too much wheel spin and everyone got by and I had to fight my way back up. I was catching Nigel towards the end, but there wasn’t enough laps left.”

Tom Sharp’s finish ahead of Chris Clayton was enough to give him the third place in the 2007 standings.

With an 89-point advantage at the conclusion of the season, Nigel Moore becomes the third ever PlayStation Ginetta Junior Champion and in his debut season racing sportscars, graduating up from the Stars of Tomorrow karting Championship.

“After the spring cup at Pembrey, I really felt comfortable in the car” said Moore. “I came into this believing I could win the Championship. To start off with, I won the first couple of rounds, which I didn’t really expect and then as I got more familiar with the car it came to me.”

• Both Fergus Walkinshaw and Paul Marsh were in newly-built cars following their involvement in an accident at Brands Hatch previously. Marsh had already ordered a 2008-specification car, which was converted back to 2007-specification for the weekend. Walkinshaw’s car was rebuilt on a new chassis by his Team.

• Nigel Moore’s sister, Sarah stayed out of trouble in her first ever Sportscar race weekend to take a 15th place finish in the first race followed by 16th and 18th. Sarah had passed her ARDS test at the same time as team-mate Ashely Craig, but could not gain her racing licence until turning fourteen years of age last week.
